Kirkland Signature Paper Towels, 2-Ply (12 rolls)

Costco

Paper Goods

Everyday household cleaning, spill absorption, surface wiping in kitchens, bathrooms, and throughout the home. Commonly used around children, pets, and food-prep areas.

Paper towels are among the simpler household products to evaluate from a non-toxic standpoint. The primary material — cellulose derived from wood pulp — is a naturally occurring fiber and is generally considered low-risk for most people when used as intended.

The key variables for families concerned about irritants are fragrance and bleaching method. Kirkland Signature paper towels do not appear to contain added fragrance or lotion, which is a meaningful positive for households with children, pets, pregnant individuals, or anyone with asthma or allergies. Fragrance is one of the most common household irritants, and choosing fragrance-free paper products is a practical, low-effort step toward reducing chemical exposure in everyday life.

Regarding bleaching: most conventional paper towels are bleached to achieve their white color. Chlorine-based bleaching can leave trace residues of organochlorine compounds, while TCF (Totally Chlorine Free) or ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) processes are considered lower-impact alternatives. Kirkland Signature does not prominently disclose its bleaching method on standard packaging, so if this is a priority for your family, we recommend checking the current product label or contacting Costco directly.

For most families, Kirkland Signature 2-Ply Paper Towels are a low-risk, family-friendly choice. They are free from added fragrance and lotion — the two most common paper towel additives that can irritate sensitive airways and skin. The bulk value at Costco makes them a practical everyday staple.

Our recommendation: confirm the product is unscented on the current packaging before purchase (formulations can change), and if bleaching method matters to you, check the label or reach out to the manufacturer. For families with severe chemical sensitivities, unbleached or TCF-certified paper towels may be worth exploring as an alternative.

*Not medical advice.
